About Us
Located in Dairy Flat, the Matea Trust is a registered charitable trust providing residential care and vocational life skills training for people with intellectual disabilities.
The Trust was established in 1992 by two local farmers who identified the need for a local service to support the needs of people with intellectual disabilities. The name they chose for the trust, Matea, translated from Te reo Māori means ‘to be needed’ we believe that everyone deserves to feel needed.
Vocational Life Skills
The Matea Trust creates employment opportunities through our vocational skills service.
Led by two dedicated supervisors, our vocational programme takes on a wide range of contracts ideally suited to our client’s abilities.
Our vocational skills clients work extensively in our firewood program completing the cutting, stacking and distribution of our firewood.
Residential Care
Our residential care ‘Homestead’ provides residential support for up to eight permanent residents. Most of our residents are mid to long-term, depending on their needs.
Our experienced staff provides full-time support to our residents, creating a friendly, home-like environment. Our residents also receive assistance in personal wellbeing, goal setting and confidence building.
Homestead residents are encouraged to lead a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle with nutritionally balanced meals catering to dietary needs provided.
Our residents have access to two comfortable lounges, and we operate frequent activities and outings, including trips to the movies, meals out and community events.
Our Services

Our hot mix firewood is a mix of Pine, Macrocarpa, Blue Gum, Manna Gum, Sheoak, Pinn Oak, Black Wattyl, Pohutakawa, Redwood, Willow, Poplar and/or Manuka.
We price our firewood by the cubic metre and for an additional fee we can deliver and stack firewood in the Dairy Flat, Albany and North Shore region.
